Summary of the Job:

Are you a Payroll guru?  Looking for your next step in your career?  Do you want to join a collaborative HR team where you will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact?  If you answered yes to these, look no further than this Senior Payroll Specialist opportunity. As a senior member of the Payroll Team you will be an integral part of ensuring that all domestic/international payrolls are processed successfully on a monthly and semi-monthly basis.  The Senior Payroll Specialist’s day would range from navigating answering employee inquiries, working thru tax related tasks, reporting, auditing and ensuring compliance with payroll processing.  The Senior Payroll Specialist will also provide their expertise on various projects and special assignments.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Process semi-monthly US multi-state payroll for hourly and salary employees
  • Work with payroll team to identify and facilitate improvements to the payroll processes
  • Regularly collaborates with team members to ensure workflow is timely and accurate
  • Balance and control all Earnings and Deductions totals, audit all output before and after each payroll transmission
  • Have a solid understanding of how Benefits, such as Section 125 and 401(k) plans affect payroll
  • Audit all data to ensure accuracy and resolve any mistakes as they arise
  • Assist in all domestic audits
  • Strong understanding of tax laws across the US
  • Takes lead role in year-end duties, including annual reporting, W-2s, employee communications, etc.
  • Keep procedure manuals current
  • Prepare and distribute various reports to Finance, Tax, Benefits, HR Operations and Legal as may be required
  • Facilitate set-up for new tax jurisdictions through payroll and federal/state/local agencies

Job Requirements:

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Workday Payroll strongly preferred
  • International Payroll experience a plus
  • Multi-state experience is necessary as well as experience working in 1200+ employee company
  • FPC or CPP is a plus but not necessary
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - both phone and email

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

Education:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 4-7 years of Payroll experience in a fast-pace environment

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent phone and computer use
  • Creating written communications
  • Able to sit/stand at a desk
  • Able to bend, sit, stand, lift boxes or equipment (between 0-15 lbs)
  • Able to travel occasionally both domestically and internationally

 

*CareerBuilder employees are currently remote. We do have offices based in Chicago and Atlanta. When it is safe to return to the office, you will have the ability to continue to be remote or utilize the Chicago or Atlanta offices as determined by your manager.
