Job Description

Do you enjoy software design and development and have an interest in BigData? Do you enjoy learning new technologies and solving difficult problems?

We leverage BigData technologies to solve challenging problems our customers are facing day-to-day. We have an immediate need for a self-motivated software engineer to join the Edge Backend team in our Norcross, GA office and help us solve those challenges.

The Edge Backend team has two main responsibilities:

  1. Matching and refreshing hundreds of millions of candidate profiles.

We use the Hadoop ecosystem and a variety of tools to enhance, normalize, and match these profiles. Some of the technologies we use include graph processing, machine learning, and multiple entity resolution algorithms. Our Hadoop clusters collectively have over 2 petabytes of storage and we are one of the biggest users.

  1. Productionizing data science applications, such as recommendation engines, that power multiple CareerBuilder sites.

We work closely with data scientists who apply various machine learning algorithms to come up with solutions to the problems CareerBuilder is trying to solve for its customers. Our role is to ensure the quality and stability of these data science applications so that they run reliable in production.

This position requires knowledge in the theory and practical application of object-oriented design and programming. Experience with database and BigData technologies would be a plus, but is not required. Experience with functional programming, especially Scala, is also a plus. The ideal candidate is highly-motivated, detail-oriented, self-directed and flexible with excellent communication skills. The candidate should have a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and object-oriented analysis and design techniques, good SQL skills, and excellent problem solving skills. Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies is desirable.

  • Writing and maintaining Spark applications that enhance, normalize, and match hundreds of millions of profiles in scalable manner.
  • Keeping the data science workflows that power CareerBuilder sites up and running.
  • Working with data scientists to deploy newly created data science workflows to production.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Strong Java skill
  • String understanding of object-oriented programming and good coding practices
  • Experience with a version control system, preferably Git
  • Decent knowledge in Linux operating system
  • Shell scripting
  • Familiarity with a SQL languages, such as MS SQL, MySQL, etc.
  • Basic understanding of agile methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Spark or other BigData technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, HBase, MapReduce, Scalding, etc.
  • Experience with Scala and/or other functional programming languages
  • Experience with Python
  • Knowledge in machine learning
