Job Description


We are looking for a Senior-Level MS SQL/Aurora/MySQL Database Administrator Team Lead (DBA) to join our Infrastructure team.  This position is fully remote.  Some of the primary responsibilities of this role will include owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents and requests.  Typically involved in maintenance, enhancement, designing of data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and performance tuning.  Additional responsibilities include reviewing service related reports on a daily basis to ensure issues are resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts, and working with peers to come up with strategic solutions.  This position will help lead in the requirements, design, and implementation of projects to enhance the database platform so it can meet the ever growing needs of the CareerBuilder website.  This position requires knowledge in the theory and practical application of SQL Server 2012/2016/2017/2019 or MySQL RDBMS architecture, database design, and query tuning.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-directed and flexible with excellent communication skills. Candidates should also have good architecture skills, strong Windows/SQL clustering skills, and excellent problem solving skills working with replicated systems.  


Essential Responsibilities:

Your primary DBA responsibilities will be:

  • Leadership responsibility including personnel management, performance reviews, daily operations and project oversight.
  • Leverages best practices approach towards projects, implementations, and issue resolutions; ability to provide status updates and reports
  • Designing and architecting SQL Server or MySQL solutions for an N-tier 24x7 high volume production environment
  • Full Lifecycle management of SQL Server and Aurora/MySQL implementations in a clustered/replicated/virtualized environment
  • Performing application database maintenance and providing technical assistance to users
  • Work with business users and developers to implement query performance improvement solutions
  • Ensuring that monitors and alerts are properly in place to meet monitoring requirements
  • Performing database creation, decommissioning and database updates/migrations to a higher/lower version or cross platform migrations; also involved in database, schema and object refresh activities
  • Developing capacity planning processes that include monitoring of existing database instance, Database, server activities for CPU, memory cache, logs performance and recommends effective utilization of resources and emergency recovery procedures
  • Performing data purging and data replication activities

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017/2019
  • SQL Server Transactional Replication
  • Windows Server 2012/2012R2/2016/2019
  • Windows Clustering
  • SQL Server System Tables/DMVs
  • AWS Aurora and/or MySQL

Job Requirements:

  • Must have an Enterprise proactive vision
  • Experience troubleshooting SQL Server and Replication using system tables/DMVs
  • Ability to troubleshoot SQL Server or Aurora/MySQL performance issues via query window
  • Excellent T-SQL skills
  • Experience tuning SQL for optimal performance
  • Experience in schema design for high volume transactional environments
  • Experience writing automation scripts in TSQL and Powershell
  • Experience with VMWare, basic networking, and 3rd party tools would be a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Yes (1-2 direct reports)



  • BS in Computer Science / Computer Information Systems or equivalent degree


Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 5 years of solid SQL Server or Aurora/MySQL DBA experience in a high-volume, replicated/clustered environment



Physical Demands:

  • Frequent phone and computer use
  • Able to sit/stand at a desk
  • Able to bend, sit, stand, lift boxes or equipment (between 0-15 lbs)


CareerBuilder employees are currently remote. We do have offices based in Chicago and Atlanta. When it is safe to return to the office, you will have the ability to continue to be remote or utilize the Chicago or Atlanta offices as determined by your manager.
