The Job: Search Engineering Manager 

CareerBuilder is actively looking for a passionate leader who can help evolve the CareerBuilder Talent Acquisition solutions to the next level. The Software Engineering Manager is a leader who can effectively guide and build teams to be successful by fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and high-performance. This person must knock down technical, cultural, or organizational impediments, mentor lead technical staff, and collaborate with other product, architecture and engineering leaders to develop a healthy organization. The Software Engineering Manager should have a passion for delivering results and learning how new technologies and processes can deliver better software to our customers. 

The Engineering Manager will lead a group of teams located in Norcross GA to start with. These teams are focused on providing high performing search & data aggregation against data sets over 150M records to support business critical web and mobile solutions targeting both public and enterprise users. The managed teams are responsible for management of the entire software solution from design and development through deployment and monitoring. These tools use a combination of AWS and on-prem. implementations in various languages as well as SOLR7 & Elastic. Our TA team is highly dynamic and regularly solves new challenges through amazing technology, combined with deep domain understanding. The manager will be responsible for ensuring the morale, productivity, and overall health of these scrum teams is high and continuous to aspire to get better. 


  • Defining commitments for release and delivering to those commitments with high quality software solutions that run with high availability on IaaS infrastructure is critical to the success of the person in this role.
  • Manages a diverse team delivering enterprise class solutions with a release train that contains multiple scrum teams.
  • Ensures that team organization, individual development, and communication are in line with the TA and broader CareerBuilder vision. Builds Scrum and development teams that perform at a high level. Fosters inter-team collaboration and productivity.
  • Implements, measures and reports on the execution strategy defined for the team. Execution includes delivery of planned work, with deliverables that meet company standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability. Effectively communicates with key stakeholders when either scope or timeline of projects require modification.
  • Oversees engineering processes and ability to generate new processes to meet needs. Works closely with senior leadership on continual process improvement and organizational change to support Agile values.
  • Responsible for appropriately allocating teams to the highest value investments per business backlog and release planning. Formulate and communicate mitigation strategies for long running projects, or projects where risk is high.
  • Tracks and measures project work and programs to assess overall success.
  • Responsible for ensuring the program scrum teams overall morale and productivity continue to improve.
  • Manages career progression for team members to include hiring, performance reviews, salary decisions, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Partners with leadership on higher level CareerBuilder initiatives across the remaining CareerBuilder teams
  • Responsible for local engineering brand awareness strategy and implementation as well as responsible for continuing to evolve culture of engineering team to drive CareerBuilder Engineering operating principles.

Job Requirements:

Education, Experience and Other Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor or Master's Degree in computer sciences or computer engineering
  • Requires 5+ years’ experience working with software development teams delivering SaaS based solutions.
  • Requires 3+ years’ experience managing a software development team delivering SaaS based solutions
  • Experience with Agile methodologies is required as the development organization is actively adopting Agile.

Desired Skills and Abilities: 

  • Experience with highly scalable search solutions based on Elastic or SOLR
  • Experience Machine Based Learning desirable
  • Experience with TextKernal desirable
  • Experience designing and deploying enterprise solutions on AWS using containers using continuous integration tools
  • Familiarity with J2EE, service oriented architecture, and Internet distributed technologies desired
  • Early career experience as a developer/architect on J2EE projects dealing with large scale distributed systems.
