The Director of Release Quality is accountable to provide strategic direction, leadership, governance, and demand management for all aspects of Research & Development Quality Assurance, Testing and Release Management.

Key Metrics:

Leads the QA team to ensure alignment to the business strategy, global project portfolio and technology roadmaps with adherence to our QA and Release Management governance, best practices and policies

  • Creates, articulates and delivers the vision, strategy and business value of Release Quality and best practices to mitigate risk during technology implementations into our production environment
  • Defines and implements multi-year Release Quality technology roadmaps supported by annual business and financial goals
  • Overall ownership and oversight of standard, performance, regression and automation testing and release tools, test data and test environment management
  • Implements enterprise wide QA metrics to drive an increase and improvement in test automation and quality while decreasing defects in our production environment
  • Implements and effectively manages QA data governance, test strategy best practices, policies and standards while gaining industry insights through vendor partners to implement R&D's next generation QA Center of Excellence
  • Partners with IT and business stakeholders to define, prioritize and execute test strategies, test plans and cutover rehearsals for technology projects and enhancements to ensure successful delivery of business capabilities
  • Partners with the Change and Problem Management Teams to ensure deployment & release plans are fully integrated with IT governance, Project lifecycle checkpoints, and Release policies and processes resulting in a rolling 12 month Release Calendar for approved R&D Major and Flex release projects.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead R&D engagement for Release Quality requirements across technology and business stakeholders
  • Excel in development and execution of QA, Test strategies, automation, regression test beds, test data, landscape test environments and enforce appropriate governance, industry best practices in QA techniques, tools and resource allocation across a complex application environment and global technology project portfolio
  • Continually review, challenge and optimize the effectiveness of delivery of R&D Quality Assurance, System Integration Test planning and execution, Release Management, cutover rehearsals and implementations with the use of automation to drive improvements in quality, speed, and delivery to mitigate risk and defects
  • Build, lead and motivate a high functioning team of internal employees and vendor resources to deliver Release Quality with improved employee experience embedded in annual objectives, coaching, performance management and development planning
  • Forge strong, collaborative relationships and build consensus among competing stakeholders across IT peers, consulting partner(s) and SaaS providers leveraging exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Masters Degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Business Administration, or technology related field

Experience:

  • Overall – 10 plus years of Software experience in Quality Assurance, Test Management, Release Management including responsibility and ownership for software delivery and project teams Experience required in the selection and successful management of on-going relationships with multiple service providers (technology and services – including non-US based off-shore service providers). Experience with software compliance and risk.
  • Industry experience – Deep QA, testing and release management strategies, tools, process and technology knowledge and experience, with innovative and progressive solutioning track record. Proven experience with deployment and operations of an outsourced QA and Release Management function.
  • Information Technology Literacy : Proficient at understanding of technology directions, trends and strategic business impacts. Strong proficiency in test automation, regression and performance management, risk evaluation, project management and demand management.
  • Software Leadership : Ability to design and lead an effective software QA organization made up of employees and vendor resources both onshore and offshore that have highly technical skill sets. Ability to contribute to the organizational strategic thinking beyond areas of responsibility. Knowledge of methods for conducting activities which identify and address stakeholders’ needs and consulting to and with the business on potential system impacts and risks. Excellent human resource management skills. Experience serving on a leadership team, resource management, people management, and financial analysis.
  • Business Leadership : An attitude and aptitude for continuously developing business acumen. The ability to serve as a change agent and influence business direction. Serves as an advocate of his/her business stakeholders and helps evangelize the role of QA and technology back to the business. Provocative thought leader who can stimulate innovation and help partner on process improvements in QA, Release and relevant areas.
  • Program Management Expertise : Must have experience leading systems implementations to a successful conclusion. Must have clear understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile project and business process management methodologies and tools.
  • Communications : Outstanding communicator at all levels of the organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent presentation skills; very strong in one-on-one communications, small and large groups. Influence is a key success factor.
  • Ability to Work in a Global, Matrixed Environment : The role and resources are broadly distributed. Must be effective at managing remote resources in a dual-report and matrixed structure. An understanding and appreciation of the challenges of working globally with a respect and understanding of the diversity of our people and cultures.
  • Achievement Orientation : Knowledge of how the delivery of IT solutions can enable achievement. Skills required include people management; project management; proactive problem solving; decision-making; risk taking; execution expertise.
  • Service Orientation : Working comprehension of research methods to evaluate stakeholder requirements and responses. Skills required include partnering; proactive problem solving; scanning for and sharing business information. Knowledge of the company’s business practices and direction, as well as, familiarity with the company’s products and resources.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills : The ability to utilize both quantifiable and qualitative information to quickly draw conclusions.
